Seniors Jordan Hetu, David Jerman, Jake Lion, and Eduardo Serrano have been named Commended Students in the National Merit Scholarship Program for the 2020-2021 school year. It was earlier announced by the organization that senior Ryan Frier has been named a Semifinalist.
Over 1.5 million students took the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test last October and entered the National Merit Scholarship Program, a nationwide competition for recognition and awards. Of that total 16,000 were designated Semifinalists, and the schools were notified two weeks ago. Frier is now eligible to become a Finalist. The other 34,000 were named Commended Students, and the schools were notified this week.
Frier was recognized at the Opening of School Mass Sept. 14. The others will be recognized at the National Honor Society ceremony in October.
“I am very proud of the young men of the Class of 2021 who have been recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation,” Principal Brendan Donohue said. “They continue a great legacy of Xavier men excelling on a national scale. They are all well-rounded students who contribute to our school community in so many ways. I am grateful for all of their many contributions.”
