Mrs. Joan Tomasiello Retiring

When Mrs. Joan Tomasiello was asked a few questions in regards to her retirement from Xavier High School at the end of the month, she closed with: “I hope I have given back to Xavier as much as the entire community has given to me.”

She certainly has. Tomasiello spent 24 years in the guidance department, the past year as Director of Guidance. This building was her second home. These students and parents meant everything to her.

“There are so many things I will miss,” Mrs. Tomasiello said. “In regards to the students, their willingness to share their struggles, their joys, their complaints, their funny stories, their school frustrations, and their personal troubles. I enjoy listening to them and watching them develop more of themselves, their personalities, from freshman year to senior year.”

And then there are the people in this building.

“We always come together for one another,” Mrs. Tomasiello said. “The students see that and even though they may not say anything, they feel it. We are a school that cares about one another. I learned from the very best. Br. Tom Ryan and I worked for years proctoring freshmen lunch of 200 boys. While I walked around making sure there was no nonsense, he was running around washing tables … humility and work ethic.”
