On behalf of the Xavier High School Board of Directors, we are pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Nicholas Cerreta '01 as Interim Head of School. Mr. Cerreta assumes the interim role with the unanimous support of the Board, the Diocese of Norwich and the Xaverian Brothers.
Mr. Cerreta brings over 20 years of dedicated service and experience to this interim role. Mr. Cerreta, a graduate of Xavier High School's Class of 2001, has spent his entire professional career at his alma mater, beginning as an English and Leadership teacher in 2005. His roles have included Assistant Director of Campus Ministry, Dean of Students, and most recently, Associate President.
In his role as Dean of Students, which he held from 2007 to 2023, Mr. Cerreta managed school-wide culture, overseeing disciplinary plans, and ensuring the safety and security of students. Mr. Cerreta also worked to implement a school-wide leadership initiative through Empower and introduced restorative justice practices, social-emotional learning initiatives, and accountability frameworks.
Mr. Cerreta holds a Master of Science in Educational Leadership from Central Connecticut State University, and a Bachelor of Arts in English Secondary Education from Providence College.
As Interim Head of School, Mr. Cerreta will continue to support the recruitment of incoming students, retention of current students, assist with alumni and development efforts, oversee facility and financial management, and ensure the smooth operation of all school programs and activities. Mr. Cerreta will maintain institutional focus on academic excellence, maintaining our Catholic identity, community growth, and fortifying a nurturing and inclusive environment where every student can thrive and grow in mind, body, and spirit.
Mr. Cerreta expressed his enthusiasm for his new role, stating, "Xavier has always been more than a school to me; it is a community that has shaped who I am today. I am honored and humbled to serve as Interim Head of School and look forward to working closely with our faculty, staff, students, and families to continue the tradition of excellence that defines Xavier High School. Having spent more than half of my life on Randolph Road, the most rewarding aspect of my work has always been creating enduring personal relationships with students, families, alumni, and colleagues alike, and I am excited to strengthen those bonds even further in this new role."
The Board will initiate an immediate search for the next Xavier President and there will be more information to come regarding that process. In the interim, we are excited to have Mr. Cerreta's leadership guiding us through this important period of transition and the start of the 2024-25 school year.
Please join us in congratulating and supporting Nick in his leadership at Xavier!
