Xavier Cross Country Wins Ninth Consecutive SCC Championship

 

The Xavier High School Cross Country team continued its dominance on Wednesday afternoon, capturing its ninth consecutive Southern Connecticut Conference (SCC) Championship at East Shore Park. The Falcons delivered a commanding performance with a team total of 39 points, defeating second-place Hamden by an impressive 66-point margin.

Leading the charge for Xavier was senior Owen Martin, who finished second overall with a time of 15:58.90 in the 5000m race. Senior Jack Ouellette followed closely, placing fifth with a time of 16:12.20, while fellow senior Owen Jones posted a personal best of 16:31.00 to finish eighth. Seniors Ian Schmeelk (17:01.70) and freshman standout Nolan O’Connor (17:13.60) rounded out the top five scorers for the Falcons, placing 12th and 14th respectively.

As a result of their outstanding individual performances, Martin, Ouellette, Jones, and Schmeelk earned First-Team All-SCC honors.

Xavier's success wasn’t limited to the varsity race. The Falcons also secured victories in both the freshmen and JV races. Junior Landon Rubano was the top individual finisher in the JV race, while Bradley Ament finished first overall by more than a minute in the freshmen race.
