The Connecticut Robotics First Tech Challenge State Championship was held on February 22nd at UConn. Of the 30 state teams which qualified, all five of Xavier’s FTC teams were there to represent Xavier. The teams are the Fullmetal Kestrels, the Fullmetal Peregrines, the Fullmetal Phoenixes, the Fullmetal Merlins, and the Semi-Platinum Penguins.
The competition was fierce, and all five teams put up a good showing. There were 45 qualifying matches, including one match which pitted Xavier vs Xavier where the Peregrines and the Phoenixes battled the Penguins and the Merlins in a never-before-seen match where all 4 teams were from the same school. At the end, the top 6 ranked teams were chosen as Alliance Captains for the Finals.
The Penguins stood triumphant as the 4th ranked Alliance Captain and the Phoenixes were chosen by the Blazing Spirits from Windsor as an Alliance Partner.
Both teams competed in one of the toughest final brackets seen in the history of CT FTC. After 10 matches, the Fullmetal Phoenixes and the Blazing Spirits matched up against the #1 Ranked Southington Cyberbolts and the Southington Cybersurge alliance.
It was a huge upset as the Cyber-Duo from Southington had some mechanical problems and some fouls which the Spirits and the Phoenixes took advantage of to win back-to-back matches to take the State Championship.
As the Alliance Captain team, the Blazing Spirits have received the invitation to compete at the World FTC Championship. We wish them the best of luck as they represent Connecticut in Houston this March.
The five teams that make up our Fullmetal Falcons represented the very best of Xavier at this event and they showed the ideals that the FIRST™ organization and Xavier High School represent. Gracious Professionalism™ and Xavier’s motto, “Be a man”. Congratulations to all who competed!
