The Xavier wrestling dynasty continues.
For the fourth straight year, the Falcons are the kings of Connecticut, capturing the CIAC State Open Championship over the weekend. Xavier finished with 189.5 points, outpacing second-place Newton (137 points) by a commanding 52.5-point margin.
Leading the charge were senior Max Morse (175 pounds) and junior Bryalon Gonzalez (132 pounds), who both claimed individual state titles in dominant fashion. Morse capped off his championship run with a 9-0 major decision victory over Luke Chapman, while Gonzalez delivered a 10-2 major decision win against Isaac Quiles in the finals.
But it wasn’t just the champions who powered Xavier to victory; it was a total team effort. Freshman Bradley Ament (113 pounds) and sophomore Zack Dixon (106 pounds) each finished as State Open runners-up, both battling through three hard-fought wins before narrowly falling in the finals.
The Falcons also saw four more wrestlers finish in the top four of their respective weight classes, solidifying their place atop the Connecticut wrestling scene once again.
