Next fall, the Diocese of Norwich will host the 15th Annual Seton Scholarship Dinner at Lake of Isles in Stonington, Connecticut. The event honors educators who exemplify the spirit and legacy of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, a pioneer in American Catholic education and the patron saint of Catholic schools.
The dinner, named in her honor, celebrates those who continue her mission of providing students with a strong academic foundation rooted in faith, character, and service. Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton was born on August 28, 1774, and after converting to Catholicism, became the founder of the Sisters of Charity in 1809 and established the nation’s first all girls Catholic school in Emmitsburg, Maryland. In 1974, she was canonized by Pope Paul the Sixth, becoming the first person born in the United States to be declared a saint.
This year, Xavier High School is proud to share that Mr. Nicholas Cerreta, President of Xavier High School and a member of the Class of 2001, will be recognized as one of three distinguished honorees.
Mr. Cerreta has dedicated his entire professional life to his alma mater. He joined the faculty in 2005 as an English and Leadership teacher, quickly emerging as a trusted mentor and leader. He served as Dean of Students from 2007 through 2023 and as Associate President for School and Community Growth during the 2023 to 2024 academic year. In January 2025, he was named President of Xavier High School, a role that underscores both his commitment to Catholic education and his deep belief in the transformative power of the Xavier experience.
His dedication reflects the very mission of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, whose legacy continues to guide the Diocese of Norwich and its schools.
Mr. Cerreta will be honored alongside Sister Michele Jascenia of the Sisters of Charity of Our Lady Mother of the Church at Saint Joseph School in Baltic, and Mary Ann Manning of Saint Patrick Cathedral School in Norwich.
Their tireless work is a reflection of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton’s own words:
“Faith lifts the staggering soul on one side, Hope supports it on the other, Experience says it must be and love says let it be.”
The 15h Annual Seton Scholarship Dinner will take place on October 26, 2025.
