Dear Xavier Families,
As of this afternoon, April vacation officially began, and it could not be more well deserved. Our students and faculty have worked hard, grown immensely, and poured themselves into every moment of this school year. We hope this upcoming week provides them with a chance to rest, recharge, and reflect. A reminder that classes will resume on Tuesday, April 22.
This week was full of memorable moments. On Wednesday, we drew the winning ticket in our 25 thousand dollar Cash Raffle — congratulations to Ticket number 142. Thank you to everyone who participated. Your support directly impacts our students and their experiences here at Xavier.
Thursday evening, our campus was bustling as we hosted the annual Xavier Mercy College Fair. With 100 colleges and universities from across the country in attendance, it was an incredible opportunity for our students to connect with representatives and begin planning their next chapter.
This morning, we gathered as a community for our Lenten Prayer Service. Our campus ministers guided us through a powerful reflection on the Stations of the Cross, reminding us of the season’s true meaning with reverence and grace.
This afternoon, with full hearts and deep gratitude, we held a tree dedication ceremony in memory of Brother Thomas Ryan, C.F.X. Brother Ryan’s legacy at Xavier is one of unwavering kindness, joyful presence, and servant leadership. The tree planted today stands as a living tribute, rooted in love and growing in faith, just like the lives he touched.
Finally, at the conclusion of the 2024-2025 school year, our beloved art teacher Jayne Vitale will be retiring. While I am incredibly happy for Jayne as she embarks on exciting new endeavors in the next phase of her life, I am also deeply saddened that we will no longer have the privilege of seeing her every day and experiencing the love and joy she brings to Xavier and all of us. Jayne has been a dedicated educator since 1980, and at the end of this year, she will have completed 44 remarkable years as a high school teacher.
While Jayne’s physical presence will no longer be here every day next year, her legacy will continue to live on at Xavier forever. She leaves behind a legacy that will be very difficult to fill. Jayne will now have the opportunity to focus on “making art professionally,” a path that she has long deserved to pursue. We all know what an amazing and gifted artist she is. And while she may be retiring, we also know that no one truly leaves Xavier completely, as the relationships formed here last a lifetime. Jayne will always be a part of the Xavier family.
Jayne, as Brother Ryan would have said, “You have taken care of the boys admirably over the last 38 years at Xavier.” You have helped develop many young men into fine individuals, myself included. I am eternally grateful for everything you taught me when I was a student of yours, and for the guidance and friendship we’ve shared over the past 20 years as colleagues.
I know I speak for everyone when I say, Jayne, thank you for being the model Catholic Xaverian educator you have been over the years.
Wishing you a restful and blessed break.
