Dear Xavier Families,
February marks the celebration of Black History Month, a time to honor the achievements, contributions, and resilience of Black Americans throughout history. At Xavier, we recognize the importance of this month through the work of two impactful student organizations, My Brother’s Keeper and Project GRACE. These clubs provide opportunities for meaningful discussions, service projects, and education that foster a deeper understanding of history and culture within our community.
On Monday, we were blessed to have Father Greg Galvin on campus to celebrate the Feast of Saint Blaise, the patron saint of those suffering from diseases of the throat. In a tradition that dates back centuries, unlit candles were held to the throat and a blessing was offered. It was a powerful reminder of the faith that brings us together.
This week, we were also proud to celebrate a signing day for two of our student athletes who will be continuing their academic and athletic journeys at the Division One level next year. On Wednesday after school, we recognized soccer player Diego Canellas and baseball player Maddox Leite as they took the next step in their athletic careers. It was a special moment, highlighting their hard work, dedication, and the support of their families, coaches, and teammates.
Our National Honor Society also sponsored Change Wars this week, a friendly competition to raise money for charity. Each morning before school, NHS members were stationed in the front lobby collecting donations in jugs, one for each class and one for faculty and staff. It was a great way for our community to come together in the spirit of giving.
We are also excited to announce that we are expanding our summer camp offerings. This summer, we will provide even more opportunities for students entering grades three through nine with a variety of academic and athletic programs. More details will be available soon, including service opportunities for our students to assist with the camps.
Finally, a well-deserved long weekend is coming up. There will be no school on Monday, February 10th, as a reward for our students' incredible fundraising efforts in the Mercy and Xavier Walk A Thon. This past fall, our Falcons raised more than $110,000, a testament to the strength and generosity of our community. Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.
